TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (COMPANIES)

This week’s #TaxationSimplified provides guidance on the steps for Companies registering for a Taxpayer Identification Number.

WHAT IS A TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (TIN)?

The Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), is a unique computer-generated number allocated to each taxpayer, whether a commercial business, Government Department, Public Corporation, Special Body or Individual.

HOW CAN I OBTAIN A TIN FOR MY BUSINESS?

Companies making an application for a TIN must provide the following documents to any of GRA’s Offices (Headquarters or Regional Offices):

Application for a Company TIN:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Valid form of Identification – original and copy (Passport, National Identification Card, TIN of two Directors)
  3. Business Registration Certificate- copy
  4. Article of Incorporation – copy
  5. Proof of Address –original and copy (utility bills, bank statement or any mail received via post)

Application Cost:

  • 1st time applicant (1st Certificate) – G$1,000;
  • Re-print of TIN Certificate – $2,000. It should be noted that in cases where the TIN Certificate was lost or damaged, the applicant will be charged a re-print fee of G$2,000.

N.B. Where the Directors are not Guyanese, the passports of two (2) Directors will suffice.

NOTE! This document is not a substitute for the law. The law shall prevail in case of any inadvertent conflict.
