The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was introduced in 2017, which restructured the Internal Affairs Division. It is located on the third floor of the Guyana Post Office Building, Robb Street, Georgetown. This unit has two (2) arms; Investigation and Integrity, comprised of well trained, competent and dedicated investigators whose only goal is to ensure compliance and integrity are maintained.

During the year 2018, the SIU conducted double the number of investigations planned for that period. Most of the investigations conducted were as a result of reports made by staff and other stakeholders. Ninety percent (90%) of the investigation reports were addressed within three (3) months of being referred to SIU.
